Jekuthiel (jek-ooth-ee'-ale) means -- God will support
"And do not seek what you shall eat, and what you shall drink, and do not keep worrying. For all these things the nations of the world eagerly seek; but your Father knows that you need these things. But seek for His kingdom, and these things shall be added to you." ---- Luke 12:29-31

Lamb playing on his mama! Katahdins are GREAT mothers!

Welcome to Jekuthiel's Katahdin Hair Sheep!

We are located near Shelton, Washington which is about 30 minutes NW of Olympia, WA.

We got our first Katahdins in 2000, but sold them in 2002 as we just had too many things on our plate at the time.

In June of 2006 we got back into raising Katahdins by buying 3 adult ewes and breeding them that Fall. In September '07 we bought a couple more Katahdin ewes and a ram lamb!

We will be working to build our herd and raising lambs to provide meat for the family and a few to sell for breeding stock!!! We are excited about getting back into these neat sheep!

A few facts about Katahdin Hair Sheep:
    * Katahdins... are hardy, adaptable, low maintenance sheep that produce superior lamb crops and lean, meaty carcasses
    * Katahdins... do not produce a fleece and therefore do not require shearing
    * Katahdins... are usually polled (some do have scurs or horns)
    * Katahdins... are docile so are easily handled
    * Katahdins... ewes have exceptional mothering ability and lamb easily
    * Katahdins... mature ewe ranges from 125 to 185 pounds; a mature ram will weigh 180 to 250 pounds

They are on Pasture while the grass is growing and we'll feed a good quality hay as needed.
  • I offer a dry COB as a treat to keep them tame and during lambing for the nursing ewes with Fastrack sprinkled over their grain.
  • I have Sheep Mineral w/Selenium out free choice.
  • I only worm when a fecal shows I need to and I worm a doe after she kids. I use SafeGuard & an Herbal Cocci Wormer (Albon for cocci, if I have a big cocci problem).
  • BO-SE Injectable to boost their needs for Selenium, when needed.

They have access to pasture 24/7 & I feed a Timothy/Clover/Grass Hay mix.
I offer a dry COB (Corn, Oats, Barley) as a treat to keep them tame and during lambing for the nursing ewes with Fastrack sprinkled over their COB.
I put out Kelp & Sweetlix Meat Maker Mineral (my sheep seem to need the extra copper that the goat mineral has) out free choice.
I only worm when a fecal shows I need to and I worm a ewe after she lambs. I use SafeGuard & an Herbal Cocci Wormer that I mix up (Cloves, Slippery Elm Bark, Ginger, & Cinnamon) (Albon for cocci, if I have a big cocci problem).
I also use BO-SE (Selenium/Vit E) Injectable to boost their needs for Selenium, when needed, as we are deficient in Selenium in my area of WA State.

I have never had CL in the herd.
I have chosen not to vaccinate.

Thank you for your interest in my flock, come back and visit us again!
